This Privacy Policy explains how NewsKart collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the NewsKart mobile app, website, and related services.

1. Who We Are

NewsKart is operated by The Butterfly Universe. NewsKart is a 30-second news app that helps users read simplified news summaries, save stories, receive alerts, practice quizzes, and access premium learning features.

2. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use NewsKart, we may collect:

  • Account information, such as your email address when you use account sync.
  • App preferences, such as region, country, state, city, language, topics, and notification settings.
  • Saved stories and reading-related activity needed to provide saved-story and archive features.
  • Community report information, if enabled in the future, such as report category, description, approximate area/locality, time of report, confirmation responses from nearby users, and moderation status.
  • Photos, videos, or other report media only if a future reporting feature allows uploads and you choose to submit them.
  • Notification tokens used to send push notifications, if you enable notifications.
  • Subscription and payment status, such as plan type, payment reference, and Pro validity period.
  • Advertising-related information, such as advertising identifiers, approximate device information, ad impressions, and ad interactions when ads are shown to free users.
  • Technical information, such as device/browser type, basic diagnostics, and app usage needed to keep the service reliable.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide news feeds, saved stories, preferences, reminders, and account sync.
  • Enable Pro features, subscriptions, payments, archives, quizzes, and audio briefings.
  • Receive, moderate, display, or limit community reports and local alerts if those features are launched.
  • Help prevent misuse, defamation, doxxing, misinformation, unsafe reports, and illegal content.
  • Send important alerts or notifications if you choose to enable them.
  • Improve app quality, security, performance, and user experience.
  • Respond to support requests, refund requests, and legal or safety issues.

4. Community Reports and Local Alerts

NewsKart may introduce community reports or local-alert features in the future. These reports may be submitted by users and may relate to traffic jams, road conditions, electricity outages, water supply issues, weather disruption, public safety alerts, missing pets, or community events.

Community reports are not independently verified by NewsKart unless clearly stated. If a report receives enough local responses, NewsKart may show wording such as Community Confirmed. This means nearby users responded to the report; it does not mean NewsKart has officially verified the event.

To protect users and the public, NewsKart may collect moderation signals, remove reports, restrict accounts, or reject reports that include private individuals' names, criminal accusations, phone numbers, home addresses, medical information, political allegations, religious allegations, graphic violence, or other unsafe content.

5. News, AI, and Third-Party Services

NewsKart may use third-party services for news data, account sync, notifications, payment processing, AI summaries, and audio generation. These services may process data only as needed to provide the app's features.

Examples may include services such as Supabase, Firebase, Razorpay, NewsData, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Google AdMob or Google Mobile Ads, hosting providers, and analytics or diagnostics tools if enabled.

6. Payments

NewsKart does not store your full card, UPI, bank, or wallet details. Payments are handled by payment providers such as Razorpay or by app store billing systems where applicable. We may store payment status, plan type, transaction reference, and subscription validity to enable Pro access.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We may share limited information with service providers when required to operate NewsKart, comply with law, prevent abuse, process payments, or respond to user support requests.

8. Data Retention

We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, including account sync, saved content, subscriptions, security, legal obligations, and dispute handling. Some locally stored data may remain on your device until you clear app data or uninstall the app.

9. Your Choices

  • You can update preferences inside the app.
  • You can disable notifications from your device or browser settings.
  • You can sign out or clear local app data where supported.
  • You can request account and associated data deletion through our account deletion page.
  • You can contact us to request review of community reports, takedown requests, or moderation concerns.
  • You can contact us to request help with account, subscription, or data concerns.

10. Children's Privacy

NewsKart is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through NewsKart, please contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as NewsKart evolves. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
